Together with Google, Mercedes-Benz and TikTok will give cars their very own “supercomputers.”
For its smart car, Mercedes-Benz is putting everything into it. As a result, they will collaborate with Google to provide numerous services and features to drivers. Mercedes also collaborated with TikTok because the majority of their new customers are under 40.
In order to compete with Tesla and Chinese competitors, Mercedes-Benz announced on Wednesday that it has partnered with Google on navigation and will provide “super computer-like performance” in each vehicle equipped with automatic driving sensors.
Old and new automakers are rushing to match Tesla’s software-powered features, which allow for remote upgrades to vehicle efficiency, battery range, and self-driving capabilities.
Mercedes-Benz and its “smart” car The German automaker decided to split profits with the semiconductor manufacturer Nvidia, which has been its partner in automated driving software since 2020, to lower the initial cost of purchasing costly high-powered semiconductors.
He stated, “You only pay for a highly subsidised chip, and then work out how to optimize joint income,” arguing that even if drivers did not utilize every function, the sunk costs would be minimal.
On the other hand, customers who purchase an additional option bundle will receive vehicles with Lidar sensor technology and other equipment for automatic “Level 3” driving, which comes at a higher variable cost.
On Wednesday, self-driving sensor manufacturer Luminar Technologies, in which Mercedes owns a small stake, announced a multi-billion-dollar agreement with the automaker to incorporate its sensors into a wide range of Mercedes vehicles by the middle of the next decade.
Mercedes-Benz announced that it will be able to offer automatic rerouting and traffic intelligence in its automobiles as a result of its partnership with Google.
Drivers will also be able to watch YouTube on the car’s entertainment system when the vehicle is parked or in Level 3 automated driving mode, which lets them take their eyes off the wheel on certain roads as long as they can get back in control if they need to.
A comprehensive suite of Google services, including Google Maps, Google Assistant, and other apps, have been incorporated into the vehicles of other automakers, such as General Motors, Renault, Nissa, and Ford.
The company claims that Mercedes’ upcoming modular architecture base will include so-called hyper screens that cover the entire cockpit.
Beginning with Mercedes, TikTok enters the automobile market with a slew of new features. It appears that TikTok is making its way into automobiles, starting with the brand-new Mercedes-Benz E-Class, which will be available for purchase in the fall of 2023.
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class will come with an upgraded version of the MBUX entertainment system, which was the precursor to the company’s MB.OS operating system, which is a custom-built system. MB.OS will be included in the next generation of Mercedes cars, which will be available in late 2024.
The Mercedes E-Class will be compatible with more than just TikTok. However, Mercedes’ interest in and position in the Chinese market make it one of the more intriguing choices. In the new Mercedes E-Class, TikTok will also be available in other nations, including the United States.
Ola Källenius, CEO of Mercedes-Benz, referred to TikTok as “extremely, highly important in Asia.” Keep in mind that the typical S-Class owner in China is under the age of 40.
He continued, “We select these various applications market by market or region by region.” We attempted to work our way down that list by looking at what was used the most, such as movies or music.
Drivers will be able to access the TikTok app and view videos while the vehicle is stopped thanks to the recently upgraded MBUX system, which will include a “superscreen” that covers the entire dashboard.
Because they will have access to a portion of the screen that is directly in front of them, passengers will also be able to take part in the activity. The driver won’t be able to see the TikTok videos playing on the passenger device because it has a small field of vision. A device for monitoring drivers will also keep an eye on the driver.
